πŸ“Œ The aim of this module is to begin an ongoing process of consciously and critically reviewing leadership practice and its impact. As the first module in the Future Leaders Scheme programme the focus of Module 1 is on you as a leader. πŸ“œ Course Description

During the module you will consider your current practice, the context in which your leadership takes place, the factors that influence your choices as a leader and the impact that those choices have on yourself and others – what we refer to as your leadership shadow. We will encourage you to critically evaluate your own practice, identify improvements and changes that you want to make and ways that you might put those into action. One mechanism for doing this will be the action learning sets that we will establish in Module 1 and which will run throughout the four modules.

πŸ— Pre-Work

Preparing for Module 1:

In Module 1 we will focus on you; the leader that you are now and the leader that you aspire to be, the choices that you have and the potential impact of those choices. The purpose of the preparatory (or pre- work) is to begin the critical evaluation of yourself, your organisation and your organisational context with the intention of deepening your own understanding of your approach to leadership. There are a number of activities we expect you to complete before the beginning of Module 1 and you will be asked to share your findings at various points as we go through the module. Full details of each activity and the recorded presentations that you should watch can be found on the AULA Journey Pages for your cohort. Please note that we will assume that you have completed all of the required preparation before you attend. Not to do so is likely to have a detrimental effect not only your experience of the module but also that of your fellow participants.

Preparatory work:

 1. Identify an image
 2. Complete your Voice Print survey and watch the introductory video
 3. Identify your core values
 4. Analyse the culture of your organisation
 5. Attend the 'Trust me - I'm a Leader' webinar on Feb 22nd or watch the recording once that is available.
 6. If you are unfamiliar with the main theoretical models and ideas relating to leadership (or want to refresh your knowledge) please watch the Leadership Theories presentation.

πŸ“š Readings

πŸ“Œ There is a vast amount of material available on the topic of leadership. This list of suggested titles contains some material that we think that you will find interesting to read, view or listen to. These items do not form a mandatory part of the programme and it is your choice how much or how little use you make of them.

It is not intended to be a definitive list but is a starting point from which you can choose to follow up topics that interest you – there are many very good publications etc. which have not been included. This does not mean that they do not have value but rather that we have had to make choices in order that the list is a manageable size. Some of the resources listed here will be academic in nature (rigorous, based on sound research, peer reviewed) while others may not have been peer reviewed, may be less well researched and/ or anecdotal. We include the latter for various reasons including that they make interesting points (perhaps based on the author’s personal experience), give a useful overview of a topic and/ or are useful prompts for reflection. All have the potential to add value on your leadership journey, but which ones actually do may be different for each of you.
